Evidence-based implementation and quality improvement projects are being developed to solve prioritized challenges. The goal of these research-driven solutions will be to improve patient outcomes and experiences and HHS system performance. Current and completed projects are listed below, with additional projects to be added as they are launched.

SMART-AMI Study

The SMART-AMI study focuses on the implementation, evaluation and sustainability of a smartphone application intended to streamline communication between Hamilton General Hospital’s interventional cardiologists and emergency medicine physicians who encounter patients presenting with suspected ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

The JUMPSTART research study aims to optimize an early mobilization program for patients who have undergone a transcatheter aortic valve replacement, and assess its impacts on quality of life.

As a member of the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI) advisory committee, CEBI is leading the development of a dissemination framework to be used by PHRI scientists.

Evaluation of Virtual Care

In order to optimize virtual care provided at Hamilton Health Sciences, patients, caregivers and health care providers having received or provided virtual care at Hamilton Health Sciences were asked to complete a short survey about their experience(s).

Behaviour Safety Risk (BSR) Program 

The BSR program aims to reduce threatening, violent and/or responsive behaviours by patients against staff, through the implementation of a new screening and communication protocol.

The CarDIA study aims to reduce patient risk associated with invasive procedures, and to reduce health care system costs, by implementing a new centralized triage pathway for cardiac testing.

The PICU Liber8 project focuses on reducing Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)-acquired complications through the implementation of a quality improvement bundle (i.e. PICU Liber8).

Procedural Sedation

Hamilton Health Sciences has developed a policy for procedures requiring moderate sedation. This policy will help to standardize care during these procedures and improve safety for both staff and patients.
