Goal

The HHS Virtual Nurse to Nurse (VN2N) support line provides an additional registered nurse resource (i.e., virtual nurse) to multiple hospital sites, alleviating and freeing up on-site nurses to provide direct patient care. The program is meant to attract nurses who have otherwise chosen to leave HHS and/or bedside care, and to retain nurses who require additional support on the units.

Program Description

As a peer-to-peer support model, the support line is meant to create a safe and judgement-free space for on-site nurses to use when experiencing challenges after-hours (i.e., evenings, nights and weekends). Virtual nurses act as mentors to support nursing staff across various hospital sites in tandem. The virtual nurses provide support after-hours when hospital units typically experience greater staffing challenges, and floor resources such as Clinical Managers/Leaders, Educators and Charge Nurses, are less available.

CEBI’s Role

CEBI is supporting the VN2N team in their pilot evaluation of the implementation and effectiveness of the support line. This includes developing surveys for bedside nurses and virtual nurses, and consulting the project team in regard to data analysis and interpretation.
