Program Overview
The Quality Improvement (QI) & Education Program builds system‑wide capability to enhance the quality, safety, and value of care across HHS. The program equips clinicians, learners, and healthcare leaders with the skills needed to apply improvement science to real clinical and organizational challenges.
Core Activities
Educational offerings introduce foundational and advanced QI and patient safety concepts, including problem identification, measurement for improvement, human factors, change management, and evaluation of impact. These concepts are taught using established improvement frameworks with a strong emphasis on practical application in local clinical settings. Click here for more information about courses.
Capacity Building & Mentorship
Capacity building is a central focus. Physicians, nurses, trainees, clinical leaders, and interprofessional teams receive mentorship, coaching, and methodological support. By pairing education with hands‑on project development, the program helps participants progress from introductory learning to leading scalable, system‑level improvements. The program works closely with institutional partners, including the HHS Quality Improvement and Patient Safety & Experience teams, to align improvement efforts, strengthen local expertise, and support learners in applying QI methods to real‑world challenges.
Impact & Institutional Contribution
The program supports dissemination of QI work through presentations, publications, and institutional forums, enabling successful initiatives to spread beyond individual units. As part of the broader Knowledge Centre, the program provides a shared institutional resource that strengthens collaboration, reduces duplication, and promotes a common language for improvement. This work enhances HHS’s reputation as a leader in QI education, patient safety, and learning health systems.
