The HHS Knowledge Centre strengthens patient care by connecting high‑quality evidence with real‑world clinical practice. Through three integrated programs – Knowledge Synthesis, Knowledge Mobilization, and Quality Improvement & Education, we support clinicians, researchers, and learners in advancing evidence‑informed, patient‑centred healthcare across the organization.
Knowledge Centre Manager: Karen Mosleh (MSc)
Oversees operations and coordination across all programs.
Research Assistant: Thilini Wijesekera (MPH)
Provides research and administrative support to the Knowledge Centre.
Our Programs
Director: Dr. Bram Rochwerg
Dr. Rochwerg is a Critical Care Physician at HHS and an Associate Professor of Medicine at McMaster University.
The Knowledge Synthesis Program produces rigorous evidence summaries that support high‑quality clinical decision‑making. The program’s expertise includes systematic reviews, meta‑analysis, network meta‑analysis, trial sequential analysis, and individual patient data meta‑analysis. Support is also provided for the development of trustworthy clinical practice guidelines using the GRADE approach. By building capacity among faculty, trainees, and clinicians, the program strengthens HHS’s leadership in evidence synthesis and guideline development.
Director: Dr. JD Schwalm
Research Coordinators: Marija Corovic (MPH) & Katelyn Cullen (MPH)
Dr. Schwalm is an Interventional Cardiologist at HHS, an Associate Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, and serves as a Scientist at the Population Health Research Institute (PHRI).
As the implementation science stream of the Knowledge Centre, the Knowledge Mobilization Program ensures that evidence‑based recommendations are effectively translated into routine clinical practice. Through collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, the program supports the adoption and long‑term sustainability of proven best practices across diverse clinical areas. The overarching aim is to enhance patient outcomes, experiences, and system performance across HHS.
QUALITY IMPROVEMENT & EDUCATION
Director: Dr. Ekta Khemani
Dr. Khemani is an Anesthesiologist at HHS with specialized training in Quality Improvement, and an Assistant Professor of Anesthesia at McMaster University.
The Quality Improvement & Education Program provides clinicians with practical, hands‑on training in QI methods. Its introductory course, Introduction to Quality Improvement and Patient Safety, guides participants in identifying problems, designing interventions, measuring change, and implementing improvements in real clinical environments. The program equips clinicians at all career stages with the skills needed to lead meaningful, measurable improvements in patient care.
